How is Social Media Trying to Make You Feel?

Today I reviewed several social media tweets.  The tweet I chose to complete this assignment belongs to Steve Price.

I was required to answer the following questions for today's activity:

How is the author trying to make you feel?
The author is definitely trying to make his viewers excited about reading this book.

What technique are they trying to use to grab your attention?
I feel like Steve Price did a great job of grabbing my attention with his word choice.  He states, "My copy of The Meaningful Writing Project t arrived today. Already know this is a game changer but can't wait to read more."  I can also see his reflection bouncing off the cover which draws my eye to want him to open the book.

Is it effective?
Yes, I believe his advertisement of this book is effective only because I am an English major.  I like the fact that he took a picture of the book instead of just posting words.  I think seeing the image of the book and reading the title and subtitles want me want to go and buy the book.

What Have You've Learned!

Today's in-class assignment entailed peer reviewing each other writings.  I learned to examine the content moreover the mechanics.  My partner did an excellent job conveying her message.  She supported her argument with solid quotes from her source and formed her own opinions as well. Her paper was well organized and easy to follow.  Great job!

This was my first time doing a peer review.  I was a little timid about this assignment, because I wasn't sure if I could offer suggestions that could help my partner.  But after I read my partners paper, I had the confidence to share my suggestions and felt that my suggestions would help improve her paper.  I'm just hoping my suggestions are clear and we can discuss them in class on Thursday.  I believe reviewing my peers paper will help me become a better writer and help others in their revision process.

Linking Readings Together

Linking Readings Together

Post potential topic, audience, and stance for LT 1

The topic I plan to address in my essay pertains to hidden inequalities in large scale government educational programs that promote upward social mobility.  My targeted audience are educators, parents, and politicians.  The purpose of this paper is to form an argument about how government educational programs promote equal access to all, but does not necessarily provide equal opportunity for all to benefit.  As a future educator, I find it important to address the issue of students having limited access to technology.  When I was a child, I attended a school district that had limited access to technology in my schools.  I personally have experienced the challenges of not being taught how to manipulate certain technologies and I see the importance of having students become technology literate.  I graduated from high school twenty-two years ago and I see how my message is still relevant, because there are students in poor school districts that still do not have access to technology.  The limited access hinders social mobility.

Jonathan Alexander Summary

Cultural norms constrain and condemn voices who want to speak openly about their sexuality. In the article, Out of the Closet and Into the Network, Johnathan Alexander invites his audience to think about how discussing sexual orientation in an anonymous computerized network classroom can give the homosexual community a voice to safely to express themselves without being persecuted for their sexuality by heterosexuals.  Because Alexander is an openly gay male, he has experienced the alienation of being a homosexual in a heterosexual society.  His own personal experiences shape his argument of being mistreated and isolated because of his sexuality.  Alexander really drove home the point that “identity is related to sexual orientation” and it “is socially construed, constructed, and controlled (212).
