They Say I Say Chapter 1 Exercise

In constructing an argument, the writer must remember that they are entering conversation and therefore need to start with "what others are saying, " and then introduce your own ideas as a response.
Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein, They Say I Say

In this exercise I will  attempt to put to practice what I have learned in Chapter 1. Starting with what others are saying:

A.    Many Americans assume that drinking water quality is free from pollutants. The Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974 requires the EPA to set allowable quantities of chemical in the water.  However, it has become common today that dangerous levels of chemicals are present in groundwaters not only in the Ohio, but other states as well.

B.    A number of economist have recently suggested that material forces drive history.

C.     It is often said that the proponents of Fruedian psychology question standard notions of “rationality.”

D.    Although none of them have ever said so directly, my teacher often given me the impression that male students often dominate class discussion.

E.     It has been common today to dismiss the problems of romantic relationships in films.

F.     The standard way of thinking about writing has it take many people are afraid that templates like the ones in this book will stifle their creativity.

IIt's important to say the I say statement afterward.
